Server Virtualization Design Module
The Server Virtualization Design Module offers advanced optimization capabilities for server configuration and workload placement, and facilitates planning of physical-to-virtual (P2V) and virtual-to-virtual (V2V) conversions. It enables solution providers to build end-to-end server virtualization solutions with server, storage, software and service components.
Benefits
- Design end-to-end server virtualization solutions across platforms from Citrix, Microsft, Oracle, Parallels and VMware.
- Determine the number of virtualization software licenses required for each platform.
- Explore what-if scenarios for servers, storage arrays and HBAs from leading vendors.
- Compare scenarios side-by-side using TCO, carbon footprint and power metrics.
- Share and reuse solutions, scenarios and reports across projects.
- Optimize server configuration and workload placement.
Citrix has been working closely with Lanamark to shape capacity planning and modeling capabilities for Citrix XenServer in the Server Virtualization Design Module.

Feature Highlights
| Broad Platform Support | Create and compare server virtualization solutions for the following platforms:
|
|
| What-if Scenarios | Determine the minimum number of target servers required to consolidate all workloads. Redeploy physical servers as virtual machine hosts or include existing virtual machine hosts alongside new servers. | |
| License Allocations | Automatically determine the required number of licenses for each virtualization platform. | |
| Hardware Template Library | Leverage server, blade enclosure, storage array and HBA templates for hardware from Brocade, Dell, EMC, Emulex, Fujitsu, Hitachi, HP, IBM, NetApp, Oracle, QLogic and Xiotech. | |
| Solution Pricing | Automate pricing of end-to-end solutions by specifying cost and quantity for hardware, software and service components. | |
| Project Templates | Jump-start solution design by re-using solutions and scenarios stored in project templates. | |
| Optimal Workload Placement | Determine optimal workload placement on target servers to minimize resource contention and meet workload affinity, virtualization platform and hardware utilization constraints. | |
